Medical records at the click of a mouse

Patients check laboratory results, review prescriptions, see ultrasound images and connect with physicians.

Now we need a definition for the word "patient" when used in this context.

Self regulation in the "HEALTH PROFESSIONS?"

A nurse who secretly filmed to reveal the neglect of elderly patients at a hospital has been found guilty of misconduct at a disciplinary hearing.


I tried to put things right and get standards improved. I prepared a report, but no one took on board what I was saying.






You don't blow the whistle on colleagues
and they don't on you.


Harold Shipman travesty, an example!?

Dr Reynolds, who was a partner in the Brooke practice opposite to Shipman's Market Street surgery, risked her career by triggering the first police investigation into the Hyde doctor in March 1998.

Fair Notice

"An important change in how organ and tissue donation decisions are registered in Ontario.

Now, when you register or renew your health card at a ServiceOntario Office, you will be advised that only a “YES” to organ and tissue donation is being collected and stored in the OHIP database."

Bill 31, Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004

For residents of Ontario; Bill 31, Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004, has received Royal assent and the offices of the Information and Privacy Commissioner may be able to assist in the retrieval of records from units such as hospitals.

Hospitals and similar organizations have not previously come under the Commissioner’s jurisdiction.

The Information and Privacy Commissioner may appoint an Assistant Commissioner for Personal Health Information to facilitate the processing of requests based on the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

Note that this change does not come into effect until November 1, 2004.
