November 8: Forensic psychiatrist Martin Blinder: Obituary Writer Clay Risen's obituary on the forensic scientists recent death is aptly headed, "Martin Blinder Has Died. He Was Blamed for the ‘Twinkie Defense,' and sub-headed, "A forensic psychiatrist, he testified that consuming sugary foods could cause antisocial behavior. To his dismay, a catchphrase was born. He was 89." Who could believe that he would be haunted by for the rest of his life by a few out of context words, as a photo caption tells us: "Martin Blinder in 1983. He distanced himself from what reporters called the Twinkie defense, saying, “Dr. Blinder found the whole experience infuriating. “There never was a Twinkie defense,” he told The San Francisco Examiner in 1983. “Because it’s so preposterous, it’s made me the object of derision.” so preposterous, it’s made me the object of derision.”
