Health care without conscience is a dangerous contradiction

After reading this CBC news article, "Health care without conscience is a dangerous contradiction", I remembered this Archdiocese of Kingston letter and its link for "THE COALITION FOR HEALTHCARE AND CONSCIENCE".

I thought that the article and the following are also complimentary on this topic.

"The Cizik School of Nursing at the University of Texas has created a REMI Platinum Award-winning 56.07 min documentary film that tells the grim cautionary tale of nurses who participated in the Holocaust and abandoned their professional ethics during the Nazi era. The 56-minute film, Caring Corrupted: the Killing Nurses of the Third Reich, casts a harsh light on nurses who used their professional skills to murder the handicapped, mentally ill and infirm at the behest of the Third Reich and directly participated in genocide."

The short documentary, Caring Corrupted, can be viewed on YouTube.

Caring Corrupted

Those who fail to learn from history are condemned to repeat it.

In a 1948 speech to the House of Commons, Churchill paraphrased Santayana when he said 'Those who fail to learn from history are condemned to repeat it. '

“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”–George Santayana, The Life of Reason, 1905.

We should pay attention to current events!

Looking at this current College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario web page, "Medical Assistance in Dying – Preliminary Consultation (http://policyconsult.cpso.on.ca/?page_id=13129)" distresses me, when I read it with the events of the 1930s and 1940s still fresh in my mind.

The  REMI Platinum Award-winning 56.07 min documentary film can be found on this page "Caring Corrupted: the Killing Nurses of the Third Reich (https://germanstudiescollaboratory.com/caring-corrupted-the-killing-nurses-of-the-third-reich/)" shows how medical professionals can be desensitised to killing!

Can't we learn from history?

Do we have to repeat the most vile?

Cultural problem?

Public Health Research - Doctors Without Borders

"Tell Canada’s Minister of Health to take concrete steps to prioritize patient access over private profits:

Around the world, governments fund critically important medical research and development using public money — including more than $1 billion already committed by the Canadian government to develop a COVID-19 vaccine, as well as diagnostic tests and medicines.

Publicly funded research has led to dramatic healthcare innovations. In Canada alone, researchers have used government funds to support the discovery of an Ebola vaccine, insulin, the cardiac pacemaker, and more.

Unfortunately, most countries — including Canada — rarely demand that the resulting health innovations be safeguarded for public health, or be made affordable and accessible to those who need them most.

In fact, these publicly funded vaccines, medicines, and health technologies are often sold to private companies, who then determine who receives access to them — and at what price.

This is unacceptable.

Safeguards can make the difference"

As fewer patients sue their doctor, the rate of winning malpractice suits is dropping too | CBC News

" ...the CMPA has significant resources to support doctors in a legal fight. The association's most recent annual report from 2017 shows the CMPA holds $4.5 billion in assets.

But for patients who find it difficult to fund their own cases, many may be surprised to learn they are also indirectly funding the doctors' legal expenses."

Safe patient care will occur in a
culture of honesty, trust,
respect and open communication.

Trenton McKinley defied all odds.
After the 13-year-old boy was severely injured in a dune buggy accident, his parents made the difficult decision to donate his organs following days of him being apparently brain dead, according to Fox 10. But after the papers were signed, he miraculously regained consciousness.

CampOut for Cancer

Hello!

We are so excited to be participating in CampOut for Cancer. It’s a new fundraising event that will challenge our team to be creative in dreaming up how to campout on a cool October night next fall in support of Camp Trillium.

Camp Trillium is truly a camp like no other. It’s the largest of its kind in North America, sending 3100 campers each year to year-round camping and recreational experiences at no cost to the families. It’s privately funded, and a volunteer-based charity. And it's unique model of bringing entire families who live with cancer together at camp has since been adopted by many other camps across North America.

The startling fact is, each year nearly 500 children in Ontario are diagnosed with cancer. So by donating to our CampOut for Cancer fundraising campaign, you will be helping to send more kids who have been diagnosed with cancer to a place where can spend time having fun with their brothers and sisters, make new friends, and forget about cancer for a while.

Until there is a cure, there’s Camp Trillium.

Thanks for considering donating to our team campaign! We really appreciate all of the support to help us reach our fundraising goal.

Please make a donation
